Toughened Glass

Toughened or tempered glass is glass that has been processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. It will usually shatter into small fragments instead of sharp shards when broken, making it less likely to cause severe injury.
All McCollins' toughened glass is processed in house in accordance to BSEN 12150. All glass toughened by McCollins bears their stamp of quality.

McCollin Glass was the first company in the area to install a glass toughening plant, and that was back in 1999. The McCollins' system employs the thermal tempering process. The glass is placed onto a roller table, taking it through a furnace that heats it above its annealing point of about 720 °C. The glass is then rapidly cooled with forced air drafts.
